Motion to form committee to hear DP Gachagua charges fails in Senate
Impeached Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua will defend himself before the Senate plenary.
This follows the failure of the motion to form a special committee to hear charges against him flopped in the Senate for lacking a seconder.
Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna declined to second the motion.
Senator Leader of Majority Aron Cheruiyot had moved the motion to for a special committee however it failed.
Speaker Amason Kingi has directed the plenary shall investigate the charges on Wednesday and Thursday next week.
The National Assembly and Gachagua have until the end of Monday to submit their evidence.
Gachagua was impeached on Tuesday night by the National Assembly where 281 MPs supported impeachment motion while 44 voted no.
